The co-founders were: Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic, the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic and the State University of San Francisco (USA).Resolution of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic № 53 dated 12.02.2003, the KMC converted to Educational Research and Production Complex "International University of Kyrgyzstan" (ESPC "KMC").
In 1993, the first set of students.First training began in an undergraduate program on the basis of generally accepted in the U.S. credit system technologies.
The IUK is located in Bishkek – the capital of the Kyrgyz Republic. Building of the IUK is one of the oldest and most beautiful buildings of Bishkek that is located on a central street of the city. In addition to Bishkek Campus, the university has three campuses which are located in the following cities: Osh and Jalal-Abad (southern region of Kyrgyzstan) and in Karakol-city (Issyk-Kul region of Kyrgyzstan).
The IUK is a member of the World Association of Universities and Colleges (WAUC), Association of European Universities (EUA), European Association for International Education (EAIE), Global Alliance for Transnational Education (GATE), Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World (FUIW), International Association of Universities under UNESCO.
The IUK was awarded with International Gold Quality Star 2001, founded by the BID (Business Initiatives Directions) – organization, which during the many years selects companies and institutions with strong activity and business, leadership, new technologies implementation and innovation. In 2001 the IUK has entered to the list of 30 best universities of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
